Most churches have no clear, public pathway to spiritual maturity. “If making disciples is the primary mission of the church, would we not expect some public pathway to maturity in Christ in most churches? Yet it is rare to find a church with a well-thought-out, easy-to-grasp process or path onto which people can get if they want to become self-initiating, reproducing, fully devoted followers of Christ.” (Greg Ogden, Transforming Discipleship)
As part of our Small Group Leader training we emphasize that everyone in the church has a “next step” in their faith journey. Small Group Leaders are responsible for spending time with people and helping them identify their next step and make a game plan to make it happen.
I worked with a great team and we designed a Discipleship Path for our church. It’s now at the core of all we do, an essential piece of how we communicate vision and expectations to our members. What do you think?
