Women live their lives in at least one of four ways – the Reaction mode, the Conformity mode, the Independent mode or the Intentional mode. Each of these dispositions is characterized by certain behavior, so it’s not hard to identify which mode a woman, including ourselves, is in:
Reactionary: She’s dominated by the “tyranny of the urgent.” She rarely operates from a sense of purpose because circumstances rule, which means her life is marked by a fluctuating faith, worry, anxiety, and sometimes even depression.
Conformity: Her chief end is just to hold what she’s got and simply maintain. She’s content to follow the pack and not rock the boat, which means she often misses God’s personal will for her life because people rule. Her life is marked by various levels of compromise as she lives mostly seeking the approval of other people.
Independence: She’s generally prideful, rebellious, and/or unsubmissive to authority, and thinks this is “freedom.” She often ignores God’s authority and will to pursue her own because self rules. Her life is characterized by control, anger and unforgiveness, and if she’s married, she’s often divorce minded.
Intentionality: Her great pursuit is for the Great Commandment and Great Commission to be expressed in and exported through her life because Jesus rules. She’s marked by progressive obedience, a sense of purpose, ministry to others and Christlike-ness.
There’s no future in any of the first three modes because we’ll only hear “Well done” from the lips of our Lord if we learn to live intentionally in the time we have left on the earth.
I hope you are intentionally retraining yourself through Bible study, prayer, and accountability time with friends.
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12:2
