Unoffendable

Maybe you’ve heard Brant Hansen on Christian radio? He’s hilarious and he has written a provocative book that argues, “You can choose to be unoffendable.” In today’s politically-charged atmosphere where social media snarkyness runs rampant, this is a very necessary and counter-cultural message! What if you got up every morning and just decided that you were not going to be offended by other people, their actions, their opinions, their moral failures, their hair color, their sexual orientation, or whatever?!

Quit taking things personally. Quit assuming you know what was happening. Quit offering advice when exactly zero people asked for it. Quit being shocked at immorality. Quit serving as judge and jury, and quit rehearsing in your mind what that other person did to you. It’s all so exhausting… We are not responsible for changing people’s lives. We are responsible for faithfully loving them.

Ministry itself – serving others – has to involve deciding not to be offended. It’s not an option. It is the essence of ministry. Only grace and love change hearts.

The book is a quick, and funny, read… Pick it up!
